How does it serves the education sector?

Have you ever thought the pictures and videos you post daily on your instagram account or any other social media platform, where does all of these get stored? Ofcourse somewhere in the cloud. Not only in the case of social media but in various business sectors, small scale companies to whom data storing and data handing seems to be costly usually opt for cloud (a typeof remote data center).

A data center in short is a dedicated space or group of buildings which is made for the purpose of storing and handling various applications and data.

How does data centers operate?

◼ Data center unifies all the IT operaions & equipments to ensure a secure location for storing, sharing, and managing big amounts of data.

◼ Data centers stores the data as well as provides backup for their data in order to maintain flexibilty during the natural or manmade disaster.

◼ Data centers are designed to support business applications and power data-intense services that include:

  1. High performance computing, Internet facilities, Hosting facilities
  2. Artificial intelligence, big data, and machine learning
  3. Data storage, backup, recovery, and management
  4. E-commerce activity and transactions
  5. File sharing and email
  6. Real-time collaboration and productivity tools

The components of a data center require a vast infrastructure to support its hardware and software. This includes power and cooling equipment, as well as connections to external networks and security appliances such as firewalls and intrusion protection.

How does Data centers and Cloud serves the education sector?

The demand of technology is increasing with passing years and the time is not so far when technology will play an essential role in the educational sector.

The data centers and cloud have a very much importance role in serving education.

◼ Online interactions- Platforms like ZOOM, Google-meet, Microsoft teams etc. plays useful role in maintaining contact between teacher and student in odd situations i.e. when physical class interactions are not possible.All these servers are hosted on cloud and it also provides facillity of storing meet data.

◼ Open online learning platforms- Some platforms offer online learning course for students which can be completed along with the regular studies. It also provides provision of online evaluation. For eg, Udemy, Coursera etc. The enrollment on such platforms has gone from 1.5 million to 58 million in the span of 2012–2016. All these are hosted on the cloud.

◼ Exam conduction- Online way of exam conduction and monitoring has reduced the delay in examination conduction process and has incresed efficiency. The examinor can put his watch over examinee through video logs which can be stored at the server in the cloud and data center for the further evaluation purpose.

◼ The cloud data center also provides space for hosting college site, helps in admission process, managing e-library, circulating e-notices, managing moodle services etc.

In other words, whichever services we use through internet while learning, those are directly or indirectly attached with the cloud and data centers. The enhancement and advancement in this field is developing a more way of learning through technology.
